City Mails Out Tax Bills to Property Owners
Published: Friday, October 24, 2008, C-T

Chillicothe city tax property bills were mailed today (Friday) to individuals who owned real estate and personal property on Jan. 1, 2008. City Treasurer Sherry Parks said that she was mailing out 4,249 statements.

The original tax charge is $746,666, slightly over 2 percent more than last year’s original tax bill of $729,807. Real estate taxes make up the majority of this year’s tax amount with $539,129 being billed and personal property amounting to $207,537.

The city treasurer said her office would start collecting taxes on Monday. All taxes must be paid by Dec. 31, 2008, or be assessed a penalty at the rate of 2 percent per month. The personal property tax bills are yellow and the real estate tax bills are pink.

Parks advises those who owned property in Chillicothe on Jan. 1, 2008 but did not receive a tax bill should contact the Livingston County Assessor’s office at 646-8000. She said that individuals who owned real estate in Chillicothe on Jan. 1, 2008, and who do not escrow through a mortgage company should receive a pink tax slip. Property owners who do escrow and receive a pink tax slip should contact their mortgage company.

Anyone with questions may contact the treasurer at 646-2285.
