City to Start
Street Project
July 12, 2011 CT
Chillicothe City Council members approved a bid from APAC, of Columbia, Mo., for this
year's street resurfacing project. APAC was the only bidder on the project and submitted a bid of $303,613.88, which was higher than the
engineer's estimate of $285,366.53. The city approved the bid, minus two streets that had originally been planned for resurfacing.
A final dollar amount was not identified during the
council's regular meeting Monday night at City Hall, but it was expected to be around $300,000. City Engineer Ron Urton stated that oil prices and diesel fuel prices drove up costs for the project.
The project list includes the following roads:
- Brunswick, from Ryan Lane to McCormick Street;
- Calhoun, from Dickinson to State;
- Crescent, from S. Woodrow (south end) to Crescent Drive;
- Turner, from Third to E.
Herriman;
- Business 36, between the Missouri Department of Transportation right-of-way to the east driveway of
Lowe's.
Most of this
year's program involves edge milling and placing a 2-1/2 inch overlay on the target areas. Streets removed from the list are Leeper, from Washington to Church; and Commercial, from Montgomery to East Jackson.
The city plans to rebid a portion of the street work which consists of placing around 250 feet of curbing on Business 36 between Country Kitchen and the old Wal-Mart building.
City Identifies
Streets for Overlay Program to Begin This Summer
June 3, 2011
Sections of eight roads are identified for this
year's street resurfacing program. The project list includes the following roads:
- Brunswick, from Ryan Lane to McCormick Street;
- Calhoun, from Dickinson to State;
- Commercial, from Bridge to Montgomery;
- Commercial, from Montgomery to E. Jackson;
- Crescent, from S. Woodrow (south end) to Crescent Drive;
- Leeper, from Washington to Church;
- Turner, from Third to E.
Herriman;
- Business 36, from the Missouri Department of Transportation
right-of-way to the east driveway of Lowes.
Most of this
year's program involves edge milling and placing a 2-1/2 inch overlay on the target areas, according to Chillicothe Transportation Director Hugh Musselman. He said the project will be bid and anticipates it to be completed before school starts in August.
The city has budgeted $180,000 for the street overlay project. Because of high oil and fuel prices, the initial list of roads had to be trimmed. He said the city plans to stay within the budgeted amount and noted that more streets could be added depending upon the bids submitted.
On business 36, the city plans to upgrade the road surface with milling and an overlay. Additionally, the project includes doing shoulder work to improve traffic safety and striping. It is anticipated that the city will use money from a separate fund that was established just for business 36.
