CAPTION:
A mock disaster drill designed to measure local and area response to a hazardous chemical spill was held Saturday on Jackson Street and the ICE railroad. During the drill, personnel from several departments responded to the location following a “report” of a hazardous spill - later determined to be a herbicide. The drill involved personnel from the following departments and agencies: the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, Chillicothe Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Chillicothe Department of Emergency Services, Region H Haz-Mat Team (several members of whom are on the Cameron Police Department), Hedrick Medical Center and the Livingston County Health Department. Youths portraying the mock drill’s “victims” were members of the health occupations class at the Grand River Technical School. After the students were taken off of the Chillicothe school bus, they were sprayed off and taken into the decontamination tent. Following that, the youths were taken to Hedrick Medical Center. Organizers offered their appreciation to Minnick Farms of Lock Springs, for supplying the trailer and tank. The event was held to comply with state regulations which stipulate that such a drill must occur once every three years.
