Flags to be Flown at
Half-Staff in Memory of Longtime Fire Chief

Chillicothe Mayor Chuck Haney has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in memory of long-time Fire Chief Joe Rinehart who died Monday, March 15. He was 63.

Haney ordered the flag at the Chillicothe Fire Station to be flown at half-staff from Monday through 5 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010, which is the day of the funeral. Flags are to be flown at half-staff at all other city-owned facilities from sunrise to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 18.
Rinehart was appointed to city service with the fire department in January 1972 and promoted to the position of fire chief on May 14, 1979. He resigned Dec. 1, 2008, after 37 years of service.
A large contingent of fellow firefighters from throughout Missouri and, perhaps, other states, are expected to attend the funeral with many bringing their own department fire trucks. For this reason, Locust Street, from First to Second street will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Joseph Martin Rinehart, 63, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Monday, March 15, 2010 at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe,
Missouri. He was born Aug. 16, 1946 in Chillicothe, Mo., the son of Clyde and Thelma (Chambers) Rinehart. On June 26, 1982 he married Dana Crookshank in Utica, Mo. She survives of the home.
He was a 1964 graduate of Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Mo. He graduated from Central Missouri State University,
Warrensburg, Missouri, in 1971 with a B.S. in business.
Joe was employed by the City of Chillicothe for 37 years with 29 years as the fire chief. He was a member of the Chillicothe Elks #565 in Chillicothe, Mo., and Association of Fire Chiefs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, canning and spending time with his family.
He is survived by one son, Joey Rinehart, Chillicothe, Mo.; one daughter, Melissa Olson and husband Brandon, Chillicothe, Mo.; one brother, Randy Rinehart, Marshall, Mo.; one sister, Sandy Machholz, Marshall, Mo.; one grandchild, Kaya Goldman, Chillicothe, Mo.; one nephew, Mike Machholz and wife Janine; one niece, Angela Driskell and son Noah, Marshall, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, two nephews and one niece.
Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Mo., on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. There will be a family visitation on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call on Wednesday at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Mo.
