Hedrick Medical Center is a licensed 49-bed hospital owned by the city of Chillicothe and leased by Grand River Health System. Hedrick Medical Center participates with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as a critical access hospital, which restricts its maximum number of beds to 25. Grand River Health System is a corporation whose sole legal member is Saint
Luke's Health System. Grand River Health System has leased Hedrick Medical Center since 1996 when it was created as a partnership between two area health systems. Saint
Luke's Health System assumed responsibility for Grand River Health System in August 2003 and holds the current lease.

approval by the active medical staff at Hedrick Medical Center.
The Grand River Health System Corporation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, makes annual lease payments to the City of Chillicothe,
and the city is responsible for capital improvements at the hospital. During 2006-2007, the City made many updates on the hospital campus including new space for the nuclear medicine department, new space for the Hospital Auxiliary's gift shop, a new waiting room for expectant families, and a complete remodel of the Radiology department. Additionally, annual repairs to non-medical equipment totaled $300,000-400,000. The Hospital and City meet annually to discuss needed repairs and updates to ensure that the hospital campus remains a safe and attractive place for patients to receive medical services.

City.
In addition to the medical service which the hospital provides, Hedrick Medical Center is the community's second largest employer. HMC employs the equivalent to 265 full-time employees. The hospital's annual net revenue is approximately $32 million and the facility disburses $12 million in payroll. In 2007, the hospital recorded 950 inpatient admissions for a total of 3,400 inpatient days and had 31,000 outpatient visits. There were 4,100 home health visits and 8,600 emergency room visits.
